My granddaughter was recently given a Creative Expressions Cross Stitch Kit. It was Kit CE7818 - Moment of Beauty. The kit had the General Info phamphlet, the picture of the completed prokect and all the floss necessary. It lacks the stitchery grid. Can anyone help us to obtain a copy of it?

Most of the cross stitch I do is for gifts. I do applique quilting of a sort - working on 40 smaller wallhangings of birthday cupcakes for a project at work. And then there are the patchwork prayer shawls for church. And then there are the counted Chrismon ornaments. And then......And then.....

A few generations ago, it was economical to knit a sweater, but now, with mass production, it isn't...we knit for the love of the craft, as we cross stitch for the love of the craft. Unfortunately, the materials now cost more than what we could possibly charge for the finished product. But for those of us who just love what we do, we will continue on, regardless of profit. And, if we can't afford the materials, we make do.

I see very, very few folks here wearing hand knit sweaters. Grandmothers may knit sweaters for the grandchildren. Don't forget, quality supplies cost money. The specialty stores cannot compete with the cheaper WalMarts, A.C.Moore, and Michaels. You have to settle for what these stores carry unless you are lucky enough to find a quality supplier on line. Even for those who knit and crochet afghans.... with the wide variety of fleece fabrics available today, the time and effort going into the afghans is just not worth it. Very few appreciate the craftmanship. Let's face it, if you love counted cross stitch, you will find the time and the money.

It seems when the economy goes down, cross stitch goes down and knitting goes up. We can knit clothing, I have never made a sweater with cross stitch. LOL. I saw this happen in the 90's when taxes were raised on small business etc. The cross stitch store I worked in had to close as the gal who owned it decided that it was time to retire even though she really did not want to. No one could afford to buy her out.

Laura, I can understand what they mean. My local needlework store closed 6 years ago and I hated to see it go. It seems like to cross stitch is costing us out of it. Everything has gotten so high from the linen to the special thread. With the way the economy is today, this does not have top priority. Once we finish our project, then it costs even more to frame it.

I am looking to purchase one of the handmade x-stich floor stands that also has the light fixture as well as the little holder for the pattern. The ones I'm finding nowadays look like a "stripped down" version of the ones I saw just a few years ago. I'm willing to pay a fair price for a used one someone doesn't use anymore. Can anyone steer me in that direction? And yes, I've checked EBAY but all they have are the ones for quilting that are not as nicely built as the one I'm looking for. Thanks!

DEBORAH: There are tons of cute things available on eBay right now - from bibs and alphabets to afghans and calendars and everything in-between . If you type in the words Winnie the Pooh under the Cross Stitch & Hardanger category, 63 items come up. And if you don't see anything you like right now, then just keep checking until you find something you DO like. I love eBay and I've found that just about ANYTHING and EVERYHTHIN you can think of shows up for sale there eventually! Good luck!

Many years ago i had loads of Winnie the Pooh and Disney patterns but as i didn't have young children to stitch them for i gave them all away. Found a wonderful answer to the pattern I was in search of. A friend had a needleworks shop at one time and is talented in all areas of this kind of work. She said if I couldn't find what I was looking for, she'd 'do' a pattern for me. Took her one of my books and she has agreed to do a pattern for my personal use. HOW HAPPY I AM!

I am looking for Candamar's Something Special counted cross stitch stocking entitled Animals Nativity. It was a kit, but I would be happy with the graph if anyone can find it! (I am also be interested in the kit.) I am also looking for a cream or ivory fabric called Modena/Medina/Modina(?) It is a bell-pull/pillow fabric with a wide intricate woven border of diamonds inside squares with a series of oval openings in narrow bands separating each smaller square as well as edging the "work" square. The open 4 7/8" square inside the borders is 25 count. Help, please! Thanks!

Yes, HANNAH LANCASTER by Porcupine just sold for $163.49 on eBay and JANE BALLARD went for $322.50 (pattern only). I imagine if anyone has one of these in their stash they'd rather list it for a bunch than give it away. Nice try, though...

Hannah Lancaster - porcupine collection - whochester museum I believe. I started it some ten years ago...and NOW cannot find the graph to complete. There is no stitching down here in border town. I have been looking for a chart that has herbs on it. It has at least 4. They all were square with a border around each. And they are meant for huck towels. They are counted cross stitch. I thought the French Country Herbs were it but not sure until they come. I had them once and the chart disappeared. Go figure. They also were very delicate looking.

Renee -- I stitched a pattern like that back in the 80's too. My chart did not have a stitched tassle, just the hat. You attached a button to the hat so the graduate could hang his actual tassle from it. Does that sound something like yours?

I have an old pattern that I used back in the 80's - it is a graduation pattern that says "The Tassel is Worth The Hassle". I think part of it has been torn off as I seem to remember it had a tassel on it. Anyone familiar with this pattern; have an update; or have a graduation pattern? Thank you.

I am diligently looking for a pattern, rather than a kit, but would accept a kit, if no other choice, of the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, Vt. I'd like a spring, summer or fall kit, if possible, but any would be satisfactory. Have exhausted all searches in my town and the Lodge had them at one time, but no longer carry them. Hello everyone! I'm hoping someone can help me find "MaggieHardy", an e-bay seller. They used to carry all sorts of nice patterns. A few weeks ago, I was looking over their selections and placed a number of them on "Watching", so I could think over which patterns to purchase. DONNELL: You are correct, 3866 is the last in number order. DMC has not issued new colors of regular DMC in some years. What some stores do is say "new colors" because they are now stocking colors they did not have previously or did not want to carry. They are "new" ONLY to that store!

A half stitch is just the "first leg" of a regular X ! usually it means doing this: / (bottom left to top right). Is this helpful? :)

Can anybody tell me the name of the manufacturer of the Cro-Knit Tension Keeper please? A little gadget worn on the pinky finger which holds yarn as you knit and tension can be adjusted. This is not the Knitting Thimble. I can't find it in the UK anywhere and only by paying vastly inflated postage can I get it sent by the only two suppliers I've found in the US (Herrschners and Patternworks). I have what I thought were all the dmc floss colors the last number being 3866. I also have several of the varigated ones. However, at the JoAnn's store in my area I noticed there was a section called "newest colors". Didn't pay any attention to the numbers as I figured I needed to find an up-dated chart. I haven't had time to contact Sue Hillis Designs yet regarding this situation but if I pretty much get the same thing from them, then I may have to try and figure it out on my own. This cross stitch project is going to be for my dearest friend who's about to become a grandmother for the first time and I just don't want to mess it up by picking out the wrong colors for it. Connie -- The reason you get one DMC color for two different Anchor colors is because that DMC color is the closet match you can get for either of the two Anchor. There is no actual conversion number or closer color match. The best you can do is choose a color by eye that will work well in your pattern -- the next shade lighter or darker maybe.

MARY: Thanks so much for the suggestion! I'll give it a try but I'm not sure how much good it will do me. Sue Hillis put out this confusing design with the multiple use of the same DMC #'s for different symbols that's causing my confusion to begin with so I'm not sure how much "help" I'll really be able to get there but it certainly can't hurt to ask. This wouldn't even be a problem if I used Anchor thread but I don't. DMC is the only thing available around here & I really don't want the expense of ordering the Anchor threads I would need because I may never stitch this project again. I don't know why designers have to make such a relaxing & enjoyable hobby so frustrating to do sometimes!

NEED HELP PLEASE! Is there anyone here who has done the Sue Hillis design called "A Grandmother's Love" ("When a baby is born so is a grandmother")? I want to start on this project ASAP but I can't until an Anchor to DMC question is answered. How can Anchor #'s 893 & 894 have the same DMC #(224) for both symbols? Those colors don't look anywhere near the same in the picture! Anchor #'s 875 & 876 had the same problem (DMC #503 for both) but that problem is solved. I've already been to several conversion sites but I continued to run into the exact same problem wherever I looked. I need to know how someone who has done this chart solved this problem. Thanks!

Jeanette - I guess it depends on how you want the back to look and how substantial your fabric is. If a neat back is really important, I think I would do hidden stitching. However, if the piece looks great with quilting going all the way through (including added interest due to differences in puffiness of the fabric), and your fabric is a substantial weave, I would go all the way through. It sounds more stable to me. It sounds like a fun project!

I think I might be crazy for trying to cross stitch on a quilt. The instructions that come with it indicate to either do "traditional" cross stitch going all the way through the fabric or a "hidden" stitch so the stitching doesn't show through on the back. What would be your choice and why?

To dj: I looked on yarndex and it will tell you if the yarn ever exhisted but there are no stores that sell it. Someone told me to try spinrite the distributor but again no luck. My best bet is a nice storeowner who has some and would reply or a person who has some sitting around their personal stash. I have other colors in the yarn but no Roxy Rose left. DENISE: I'm so glad to hear you finally found the cross stitch you've been looking for! I can't imagine WHY that store would have just canceled your order without telling you!!! That's extremely rude & it's not very good customer service. Word of mouth is what businesses depend on most of the time to survive so I can't imagine what they were thinking by treating a customer that way. I've never done business with these people & it's doubtful I ever will now because of this (& I'm sure I'm not the only one here who feels that way either). I am an American living abroad and am looking for two patterns approximately 2 years old. They are of Krakow, Poland landmarks, Wawel Castle/Cathedral and St Mary's Basilica. They appeared in a British (I think) magazine sold over here possibly called Cross Stitch or Magic World of Cross Stitch. Might have been a US magazin, I just remember some of the cover was in English. They were mostly backstitch and looked like pen and ink drawings on aida cloth. Any ida of what the "official" names of these patterns are, or in which magazine they appeard?

CONNIE & MALLORY: I finally received an email from the Stitchery Shop, after 3 weeks of trying to get an answer by phone or email. I was told that since the chart was no longer available they had cancelled my order (only they didn't tell me!). The chart is now OOP, I think, 'A Savior is Born' by 4 My Boys. I originally tried my LNS and she tried her best to find it but did not have it. That's when I began looking online. I have now located it on Ebay from a very nice lady so I can put this behind me! RE: 2-1/2" GOLD ORNAMENT FRAMES: For anyone interested --- someone on eBay is currently selling 2-1/2" gold ornament frames (3 in a lot, 3 lots available). I really need these ornament frames myself but they're a little on the steep side: B-I-N for $8.49/lot (+ $3.79 shipping) . . . which makes the ornaments $6.14 each. Ouch!!!!! DENISE: Sorry for the mix-up! I don't understand that store's non-communication with you but if you haven't rec'd your item & there hasn't been a charge on your c.c. for it then maybe they either a.) didn't receive your order for some reason or b.) the item proved to be too hard to find (maybe it became out-of-stock where they were getting it & they didn't know where else to find it?) so they just quit on you. Either way, I'm glad they didn't charge you for something you never got! But if you order your item from a 2nd store & the 1st store ends up sending it to you after all, then I'd return the item to store #2 for a refund (because you might have just as hard a time getting a refund as you did the item!!!).

DENISE: (Sorry! Just one more thing!) I live in the Louisville, KY area and we have someone at our local newspaper that writes a column called "Lemme Do It". They receive all kinds of complaints from people like you who have tried to resolve problems with a place of business only to sometimes get the runaround to the point where they're just about ready to give up. They write to "Lemme" for help & from some of the letters published in the paper, they seem to have quite a bit of success resolving the issues (although not always in the writer's favor). Do you have something like this where you live??? If so, maybe they can help you. Good luck!

DENISE: Regarding canceling your order --- since you haven't gotten any kind of a response from the seller, have you tried contacting your credit card company & (belatedly) filing a dispute with them because you haven't received your merchandise? I don't know how long it's been since you paid for your undelivered item(s) & I don't know whether you'd be able to do anything about it now or not but it's certainly worth a try. If your credit card company goes along with it & seeks seeks to get your money back from this business, that might be enough to get their attention so that they'll contact you & try to work things out. DENISE: When you say the "Stitchery Shop", are you referring to The Stitchery (@ thestitchery.com)??? Because I've ordered hundreds (& I mean HUNDREDS!!!) of $$$ worth of cross stitch items from them over the 22 years I've been stitching & I've NEVER had a problem receiving anything from them, nor have I ever failed to call them & someone didn't answer the phone & help me with anything I needed. Are you SURE you're calling the right number & e-mailing the right address? Because if this is the same place I'm thinking of, this behavior is just totally uncharacteristic of them.

I am looking for 2 sampler patterns by Sister. They were from 2001 and had 4 separate leaflets for each of the 4 seasons. I have the Spring & Summer and need the Fall and Winter samplers. One is from Caryn and Richard's Cross Stitch (item #370322806061). I've dealt with them before and they are very reliable. It's $6.99 (+ $2.90 shipping) with 3 days to go on the auction (or you can Buy It Now for $7.95). The other one (item #150398428382) is with someone I've never bought from before so I can't personally vouch for them but their feedback is excellent so I'm pretty sure they'd very be trustworthy to deal with. I am looking for a send-away chart for a cross stitch Christmas tree incorporating the twelve days of Christmas. It was in one of the Christmas issues of McCalls magazine printed sometime in the 1980's. It is quite intricate. I saved it for when I had time to work on it. In the meantime, my husband went through the drawer in the file cabinet where I was saving it and threw everything away. Now, my children are raised and gone and I have time to sit and cross stitch and my pattern is gone....if anyone has it, please contact me. I absolutely loved that pattern. Thank you for your time.

Kathy in GA, the Dover book had other patterns. I remember it had some Kate Greenway type children, the Cheshire cat, a few designs stitched on gingham fabric, a baby in a basket srrounded by roses. I don't know if that is the book Claire is seeking but it's the one Alice book I remember.

Claire, the Alice in WOnderland cross stitch book was from Dover Publications. They aren't printing it any more. I bought one on ebay for a few dollars and now can't find it.
