You are welcomed Doug....another suggestion would be to contact the site. I checked and the email contact is wendy@allcrafts.net. Should you contact her and she is able to shed light on the color key, I'd love to know what it is. That picture of Elvis is a really good one, and I might want to stitch it too! Thanks!

Kathy, thanks for trying to find it for me. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and see if I can remember all the hints about picking colors that people have offered to me in the past.

DOUG - I went to the site and found the Elvis graph but I cannot locate a key either. There is a link at the top left of the page that says turn off this top frame. When I do that, a picture of the completed graph shows up. It's all in shades of grey/black, and I'm wondering if the stitcher chooses colors based on his/her preferences? Just a thought. HTH!

Looking for old charts? Looking for OOP charts? Send me an email and I'll send you a link to a great site that specializes in these charts. I know the lady who runs the site and she is very helpful and reliable. She does international shipping. I know the charts because they came from our LNS. Going to this site is like walking down memory lane! Happy stitching!!

Kelley -- Blending filaments can add sparkle and are usually matched with a strand of floss for stitching. If you are talking about gold braid or cording, that is used alone and will look just fine.

I have found a great Elvis pattern on Allcrafts.net and have been able to download the chart but have been unable to locate the key for it. The website has other patterns that I have been able to download both chart and key but it won't let me do this one. Is there a trick to it? I am looking for a counted-cross stitch pattern or kit "Always Kiss Me Goodnight", large enough to put above a bed or bedroom door. I found one with flowers around the saying but it was no longer available. Also, I lost my pattern for my project "As for me and my House, We Will Serve the Lord". Has a house with trees on the sides, upper and lower case alphabet at the bottom and a space to put the family name towards the bottom. Thanks!!

CAROL: I found 3 different patterns for "Amazing Grace" surrounded by flowers on eBay. Two of them has sheet music in it . . . there's (5) listed with sheet music by Bucilla (which is a kit, all with different sellers) and (2) with sheet music and a violin (a computer-generated pattern only, same seller). There was another pretty one there too. It didn't have the sheet music you're looking for but it has roses in the upper and lower left hand corners (which is a pattern only). Just type the words Amazing Grace in the cross stitch search engine and there you'll find them. Good luck!

JUNE: i like the precision of cross stitch; that you don't have to stitch backgrounds; and, the fact that you can buy components (fabric, floss, chart books) and build up stash. i often can produce a finished piece without buying anything. i suggest you go to michael's or joann's and buy a $2 cross stitch ornament kit and try it. they come complete and not much of a loss if you hate it. also, if you're near garden grove, there's a lovely shop http://www.needlepointsltd.com/home1.html that has both cross stitch and needlepoint. welcome to your new obsession!

June - I guess I should also add that I prefer cross stitch, but needlepoint and cross stitch are very similar. Basic cross stitch uses fabric and thin floss while needlepoint uses heavier canvas and thicker yarns. Many of the stitches are exactly the same. It is best to have needlepoint stretched tightly on a frame. I like to cross stitch in hand without a hoop. Some needlepoint canvases are painted (very expensive), but you can use blank canvas too.

JUNE: I've been cross stitching for 22 years & it's my greatest passion! I've never done needlepoint but x-stitch instructions are pretty straight-forward. I normally do kits & they provide an easy-to-read chart, the fabric, thread & needle. There's rarely any guess work involved & the end results can really be spectacular! Almost every single room in my house has at least one x-stitch project hanging in it that I've loving stitched rather than just some generic, boring picture I could have picked up at Wal-Mart. Plus, I've done smaller things (like coasters, trivets, & ornaments) & given them away as birthday/anniversary/Christmas gifts, as well. Try it. You'll absolutely LOVE it!

June, I have done both needlepoint and counted cross and definitely like counted cross better since I am NOT artistic. With needlepoint there would be an area of a certain color and you'd have to make decisions as to how far within or out of that area to do that color. With counted cross there is no guessing. Each square is marked. Just my thoughts...

THANK YOU for the encouraging emails of suggestions and sharing of experiences. However, I have received several emails and just now checked and find one more response on the media post; I'm wondering whats the difference. If someone posts a response, what distinguishes whether it goes by regular email OR gets posted on the public blog? The responses I've gotten by regular emails would benefit all of us beginners and needs to be seen by all. Anyone know?? HAPPY MONDAY WITH A WEEK FULL OF BLESSINGS !!

Hi. I am trying to locate a vintage Elsa Williams crewel embroidery kit for "The Fox Hunt" pattern which was designed based upon the Wedgwood china pattern called "Hunting Scene". My sister had one done for her by our mother and she lost it with most of her belongings and her house in a horrendous house fire in April. If anyone has one or knows of one I would love to purchase it so that I can make it up for my sister who is devastated by the losses. Many thanks, Susan

I am searching for a pattern to finish a project my mother was working on. I believe it is by Creative Circle in the late 80's. A blond doll and teddy bear sitting. the fabric space is square with a patterned "mat" printed on the fabric. It could be finished but the doll's face looks like something is missing. I would love to find the pattern/kit so I can purchase and finish her project.

KAREN: You can also join at www.123stitch.com. YOu must apply for membership (takes 20 seconds!) and the owner is very nice. Lots of gals sell stash there, just mind the "selling" rule: Don't post a looooooooooooong list or tons of photos. Best to just tell what you are selling and give your email address for the list. Lots of people do this there, have for years. Good luck!

I am looking for a cross stitch pattern that I did for several friends and relatives in the early 80s of a ring bearer's pillow. I made one for myself and my husband and now my son is getting married next summer and i want to do one for him. The pattern has a large ring on it with flowers wound through it. The saying on it is Love is eternal like the circle of a ring whole unto itself..... I would really appreciate any help I could get in finding this pattern.

It'll take you to a page that has only a free alphabet given but there's an e-mail address listed under it. You can try writing them to see if it's still available. Good luck! http://xs.houseofkats.com/freebies.html

There is a HAED stitchers blog here with many different in progress designs including the Wizard of Oz http://ourfriendshaedsal.blogspot.com/search/label/Wizard%20of%20Oz This Japanese stitcher is also stitching WofOZ and she has lovely pictures of her WIP. To see more pictures, go to the bottom of the page 'tags' and click on Wizard of Oz. It brings up a list of pages to see all her progress http://ssumninlye.exblog.jp/m2009-08-01/ . Buy the design! I grew up supporting an incredible shop in Van Nuys, Calif. Here in Maryland, the fullservice needlework shops have all but disappeared. Inez's, in Kensington, is about the only one I know of, but there are things even I know that they haven't been able help me with. Are there any other fullfledged needlework stores (needlepoint/cross stitch) in the area?

Terry, Back Cross Stitch Gold magazines are very difficult to find in the U.S. You could try ebay, I've had some luck there finding old ones. Barnes & Noble carries the current one, but nothing old. The do have a website to order back issues and the Euro is doing well now, so it shouldn't be that much. Hope this helps some.

I've ordered from ABC Stitch for 3 years and never had a problem. On some charts shipped from France and England the web site clearly states the order may take 2-3 weeks. My orders have always gotten to me within 5 days. I am not affiliated with the shop, simply a happy customer. Vicki - Working on 28ct over one will present a challenge. Changing to a larger needle will help in your stitching but I think you will find that weaving you ends under will be difficult. If threading is your onkly problem try a needle threader. There is one our by LoRan that is my favorite because it amazes me why anyone would want to thread a needle threader - This one you dont it is a tiny hook and you just lay your thread into the hook and wow it is threaded. Hope this helps. www.stitchnframeonline.com

Vicki -- If a size 28 needle seems too small and is difficult to thread, you can switch to a size 26 needle or even a 24. Some people feel it is better to use a slightly larger needle because it opens the hole and the floss is less frayed when going through the fabric. The hole won't remain larger. It closes back up just fine.
