Cross stitch pattern from Hands Across the Sea Samplers. Reproduction of a piece stitched by Sarah Borton, "finished in the ninth month of the year 1815." The central passage begins "Jesus permit thy gracious Name to stand, as the first efforts of an infant hand." This passage is surrounded by an embroidered flowering vine, stitched mostly in satin and chain stitch. Above are four alphabet examples. Below is a small scene depicting a house, a well, trees, and a section of fence, as well as three people who appear to be doing different farming tasks. The whole design is finished with a delicate vine and bud border. Stitch count 258w x 304h.
